June 2016

We have recently added turkeys and ducks to the chickens, guineas, goats, and rabbits we are already raising. Earlier this year we added a 6oo square foot rabbit colony and we look forward to creating a duck habitat adjacent to it. This will provide a pleasant focal point where people can relax in the shade while watching the rabbits and ducks frolic about.

We have also nearly completed a new "turkey tractor" that will provide 120 square foot of space with half of the roof and sides covered with metal and the other half with chicken wire. Two horizontal beams along the covered area provide 24 foot of roost two foot off the ground. Wheels along each corner attached to levers will raise the structure which can then be moved to fresh pasture.

Another future project we look forward to completing will involve installing a large 500 – 1000 gallon well-fed black tank that will be placed above the various beds and raised beds situated beneath. The vertical variance between the tank and the beds should provide adequate pressure to allow for drip irrigation along all 400 feet of the beds beneath it by placing shut off valves at the beginning of each bed and only watering a few at once.
